Harry Potter and Indiana Jones Star Michael Byrne Dies at 82
Sad news for veteran British actor Michael Byrne. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Wednesday (July 1, 2026), the British actor, known for his antagonistic roles in the Indiana Jones and Harry Potter film franchises, has passed away.
The Guardian reported that the veteran actor died on June 20, 2026, at the age of 82. However, the cause of his death has not been clearly disclosed.
Michael Byrne was born in London in 1943 and studied at the city's Central School of Speech and Drama. He then made his debut in the 1962 television adaptation of August Strindberg's play, The Ghost Sonata. In the 1960s, his career was primarily focused on theater, including performances with the traveling theater group Arena. It was here that he met Carole Nimmons, whom he later married in 1965.
One of Byrne's most memorable roles was as Nazi Colonel Ernst Vogel opposite Harrison Ford in the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
