Del Monte Bankrupt! Assets Sold, Debts Mountainous

 Global canned food and fruit company, Del Monte Foods, has officially filed for bankruptcy in the United States (US). This was done through the implementation of bankruptcy law or better known as Chapter 11. Reporting from Reuters, Wednesday (2/7/2025), the bankruptcy filing was carried out by Del Monte based on an agreement with the company's main lenders. At the same time, the company will sell a number of assets in accordance with existing regulations to cover some of its debts. "Del Monte Foods began efforts to pursue sales when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States on Tuesday based on agreements with several major lenders," the company wrote in a statement. "While some of its subsidiaries outside the US are not included in the Chapter 11 process and continue to operate as usual," Del Monte Foods said again. US House Approves Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill

 The United States House of Representatives on Thursday (3/7) passed the One Big Beautiful Bill proposed by President Donald Trump with a vote of 218 in favor to 214 against. The bill will be sent to the president's desk for his signature by the July 4 deadline set by Trump. Two Republican representatives, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, voted against the bill. The House had approved an initial draft of the bill in May and sent it to the Senate. The draft received many revisions from the Senate, but senators approved the draft by a narrow vote when Vice President JD Vance broke the deadlock on Tuesday (1/7). The tax and spending bill includes tax cuts and increased funding for the military and border security. The contentious issue is that it is expected to add $3.3 trillion to the already high national debt and strip millions of people of their right to Medicaid and food stamps.  Elon Musk has once again criticized a new policy proposal supported by US President Donald Trump. The entrepreneur and world's richest man called the new rules crazy and destructive. The rules Musk is referring to involve tax hikes on various energy projects, including solar energy, batteries, geothermal, wind, and nuclear power. The bill would also provide new subsidies for coal used in steel production. As a point of information, Tesla, which Musk owns, produces, sells, and installs battery energy storage systems and solar photovoltaic systems. This is done through its energy division.
