Minnesota lawmaker's suspected shooter identified, here's who he is

 Police have identified the suspected perpetrators of the murder of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. The alleged perpetrator is known as Vance Boelter (57).

Reported by CNN, Sunday (6/15/2025), Vance Boelter allegedly posed as a police officer and killed Melissa. He also injured State Senator John Hoffman.

Vance Boelter is known to work for a security company, Praetorian Guard Security Services, which advertises a fleet of "police-type vehicles". He was also a vocal evangelical Christian.

The names on the list found on his car, obtained by CNN, are mostly Democrats or figures with ties to Planned Parenthood or the abortion rights movement. The list includes lawmakers such as Rep. Ilhan Omar and Senator Tina Smith.

CNN also reported the relationship of the perpetrator to the victim. Vance Boelter served on the state board with Hoffman, according to records. In 2019, Governor Tim Walz placed Boelter on the Governor's Workforce Development Board - a group of business owners who recommend policies to the state government.

Currently, police are still hunting for Vance Boelter. Although Boelter lives in the small town of Green Isle about an hour outside of Minneapolis, he often stays in the rented home of his longtime friend in the town, David Carlson.

Carlson, 59, spoke with reporters Saturday evening in front of his home after returning from the lumber store to buy plywood for the windows, which had been broken into by the SWAT team earlier in the day.

"He's not a hateful person," Carlson said. "But he needed help."

Carlson said Boelter was a conservative who voted for President Donald Trump and strongly opposed abortion rights. However, he said Boelter never mentioned any particular issues with the lawmaker who was shot, and said he was surprised to learn he was a suspect in the attack.
