Meta and Oakley to Launch New Smart Glasses
Meta will introduce new smart glasses on Friday, June 20. This time, the glasses being introduced are not the result of a partnership with Ray-Ban, but with the global brand Oakley.
The announcement plan was revealed after an account named oakleymeta appeared on Instagram. The verified account was seen sharing a teaser on Monday, June 16, and reposting Reels uploaded by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
No information could be gleaned from the account's teaser. However, circulating reports state that Meta and Oakley will release smart glasses for sporty activities. This wearable device is aimed at cyclists, athletes, and others.
According to a Bloomberg report, the smart glasses made by Meta and Oakley also have a camera like those made by Ray-Ban. However, the camera mounted in the center of these glasses is an action camera with high stability, similar to a GoPro.
In addition to using a better camera type, this Oakley version of Meta glasses also has a very different design. These smart glasses are based on Oakley Sphaera, protective glasses for sports use with lenses that appear closed.
Apart from these two features, no further information is available about the Oakley version of Meta glasses. Neither company has revealed the design or color of the smart glasses they are developing.
It is unclear whether Meta will add Artificial Intelligence (AI) features and an AI assistant to the device. However, there is a possibility that Meta AI will be added to the glasses, similar to the capabilities found in the Ray-Ban version.
