French Open 2025: Coco Gauff Wins After Defeating Sabalenka

American tennis player Coco Gauff emerged as the 2025 French Open grand slam champion. Gauff defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

Gauff came from behind to defeat Sabalenka in the final. Competing on the Philippe Chatrier court, Paris, Gauff who had lost the first set finally won 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.

Gauff became the first American tennis player to win the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015. At only 21 years old, Gauff also became the youngest American tennis player to win the French Open since Serena in 2002.

"I went through a lot when I lost in the final here three years ago. I'm so happy to be here," Gauff said, as reported by Reuters.

"I want to congratulate Aryna. You're a fighter. You're the number one player in the world. It was tough today, but you deserved the result you got. Every time we play, it's tough."

"The crowd helped me today. You guys cheered me on and I don't know what I did to get the support from the French crowd. I thought I couldn't do it."

This is Coco Gauff's second grand slam title. She previously won the 2023 US Open.
