Anna Wintour Steps Down

Fashion enthusiasts were surprised by the news that Anna Wintour (75) will be stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief of American Vogue magazine. This change does not necessarily mark the end of Wintour's career in the fashion world. She will continue to serve as chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director for Vogue.

The resignation was announced on Thursday (June 26, 2025). “Anyone working in the creative field knows how important it is to keep evolving in their work. When I became editor of Vogue, I wanted to prove to everyone listening that there was a new, exciting way to envision an American fashion magazine,” she told staff members.

“Now, my greatest joy is helping the next generation of passionate editors contribute their own ideas, supported by fresh, exciting perspectives on what a major media company can achieve,” added Wintour.

The iconic woman with her signature sunglasses has been working for Condé Nast since 1983. She is sure to remain an influential figure in the fashion world. Wintour will continue to oversee other international editions of the media, such as Vogue, Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ, Tatler, Allure, and many more, except for The New Yorker.

Wintour has made it clear that she is not going anywhere. "I will not be moving offices or relocating any of my Clarice Cliff ceramic collections. I will dedicate my full attention to global leadership, collaborating with the brilliant editorial teams around the world, and supporting the editors," she said.

Anna Wintour has become a legendary figure who changed the face of American Vogue. She played a role in making designers Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, and John Galliano famous. Her iconic persona was also the inspiration for the character Miranda Priestly in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
